The life! The Casino and Hotel’s newest addition, Sports & Social, will open April 29, adding more games, multiple video screens for sports fans to watch games and, once Maryland lawmakers finalize it, legalize sports betting.

It is the first Sports & Social to open in Maryland. A second location will open this fall at the Pike & Rose development in Bethesda.

Sports & Social on Live! The casino is a $12 million addition that replaces the former Center Stage performance space in the center of the casino floor.

The nearly 14,000-square-foot, 212-seat venue features a state-of-the-art audio/visual system with more than 100 linear feet of LED screens, including a 47-foot-wide main screen. The casino says guests will be able to watch at least 10 games at a time.

It also features two main bars, a VIP lounge, a sun deck for watching sports, casino games including blackjack and roulette, and interactive social games such as mini bowling and giant foosball.

The life! The casino already has a partnership with FanDuel and, pending final approval, the new location will have several options for placing bets, including self-service kiosks and sales windows.

Maryland voters approved a ballot initiative to legalize sports betting in 2020. A bill to do so has passed both the Maryland House and Senate and is expected to be signed into law by Governor Larry Hogan. Legalized betting in Maryland could begin in the fall.

The Bethesda North Sports & Social venue will be about half the size of the Live! space, but it will still be full on video screens. There will also be an outdoor patio and live music.

Sports & Social is a division of Live! Cordish Companies Casino & Hotel Owner. Other new venues recently opened at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Louis, Live! Casino in Pittsburgh and Life Casino & Hotel in Philadelphia. There are others at Atlanta Braves’ Truist Park, Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Park and Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium.

Called Sports & Social, the sports bar is set to offer patrons another option later this year, the ability to play sports.

The national Sports & Social brand, which owns Maryland Live! Owner The Cordish Cos. has partnered with sports betting platform FanDuel Group to allow people to bet on-site at the Arundel Mills casino or from a mobile device.

“We will be ready to implement sports betting at Sports & Social as soon as the state allows,” which could be late summer or early fall, said Reed Cordish, principal at the Baltimore-based developer. “Patrons coming to Sports & Social will be able to either walk up to a cashier or stand and place a bet on a game they’re watching.

Fanduel Launches Retail Sportsbook At Live! Casino Hotel Maryland

Lawmakers agreed to a plan to offer licenses for about 100 in-person and online venues, including casinos, Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course and the stadiums of the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens and Washington Football Team.

Additional on-site concessions will be available for off-street betting facilities, the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium and large bingo halls. Additional licenses will be issued to mobile and online sports betting, which make up the majority of sports betting in other states.

Lawmakers hope to begin allowing sports betting in late summer or early fall, during the NFL season.

Maryland Live! will work with FanDuel for casino licenses, Cordish said. The mobile license is a key part of the partners’ plan to enter the state’s sports betting industry.

Sports Games And Betting Will Be Front And Center At Live Casino’s New Sports & Social

“A significant portion of sports betting takes place on mobile,” Cordish said. “We believe there is a real opportunity with sports betting to drive this audience to Live! with special events and promotions.”

Cordish Cos. has developed the Sports and Social concept at its flagship properties in the United States, such as The Battery next to Truist Park in Atlanta, Ballpark Village next to Busch Stadium in St. Louis and at Texas Live! in the Arlington Entertainment District in Texas.

Hanover Sports & Social will be the brand’s third location to offer sports games, joining locations that opened late last year and this year in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

A second Maryland location will open this fall in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose mixed-use project, and others are planned for Chicago, Miami and Nashville, Tennessee.

Casino Hannover is not the only place in the state that is ready for sports betting. When the Maryland Jockey Club renovated Laurel Park in recent years, it added space for a possible future sportsbook. MGM National Harbor has applied for a permit to build a “sports book improvement project.”

The life! The Casino sports bar, a $15 million project that seats more than 200 people, is centered on more than 100 linear feet of LED screens, including a main screen about 50 feet wide. The venue features two main bars, including one with electronic board games, tiered tables and lounges for watching sports, VIP lounge areas, casino games and duck bowling lanes.

The casino is waiting for final state regulations to determine some details about how sports betting will operate, Norton said.

For example, it is possible that in-game betting would be allowed, but that would depend on the final rules, he said.
